It is not everyday that Hong Kong's glitterati are alchemized into green gems but this was the case on Thursday October 30, 2008 when celebrities and socialites gathered at the W Hong Kong for EcoChic Hong Kong.
This invitation-only event showcased some of the hottest sustainable fashion labels on the market. Exciting eco-fashion looks hit the catwalk in three categories:
- Vintage: the grandest form of recycling
- Ready-to-wear: established labels committed to sustainable design
- Eco-couture: luxurious one-off creations using sustainable materials
Before the fashion show, guests were served fine organic food and wine and enjoyed recycled art installations. There was also the opportunity to listen to an inspiring speech by Dr Jem Bendell who laid out his vision for sustainability in the luxury goods sector. As no fashion event can be complete without shopping, Sotheby's conducted a live auction which raised over HKD75,000 for WWF HK.
